Proper Mold-Remediation - A Neccessity in Foreclosures

With so many foreclosures on the market, we're seeing more mold than we've seen in our entire time selling real estate.  Houses sit empty, and we've had a wetter than usual summer.  Mold is a health hazard to be sure, but if properly dealt with, it's not something to be overly afraid of.

First, make sure that you have a home inspection.  Mold can be improperly treated with chlorine, which only causes it to temporarily turn clear, or it can be painted over so that buyers cannot easily see it.  A qualified home inspector can detect mold.

Secondly, use a qualified mold remediation specialist to deal with the mold.  In many cases, the bank will pay for the remediation because they don't want to be on the other end of a lawsuit when the mold reappears in a year or two.  Mold is serious business, but don't let it keep you from finding your dreamhouse for a great deal.
